Trips on the lakes: the Black Lake

The Black Lake is one of the jewels of the Pistoiese mountains, located at 1730 meters of height.
The name was given to him for the very dark reflections, in its waters, of the mountains that surround it.
This lake is placed in a ‘basin’ where before there was a glacier; and is surrounded by mountains such as Monte Gomito and the Alpe delle Tre Potenze.
Within this dark lake we find two varieties of newts, small protected amphibians, the alpine and the crested. All around the lake, on its banks, we find many varieties of flora such as blueberries, raspberries, mountain pine, garlic and beech.
To reach this natural beauty, there are many paths, from the Valle del Sestaione, from Val di Luce, from Abetone, all well indicated.
Otherwise in just eight minutes, with the cableway, you can reach the top of Mount Gomito, from where it is very easy to reach the lake.
Near the lake there is also a small shelter, always open, to rest and if you want it is also possible to sleep, as it is equipped with beds.
From the lake, as well as enjoying its fantastic view, you can see the islands of the Tuscan archipelago to the west, the chain of the Alps to the north and the city of Florence to the south, a frame to say the least perfect.
